Abstract
Peripheral neuropathy arises from various causes such as diabetes, metabolic derangement, paraproteinemia, neurotoxins, or genetic abnormality. Even after thorough evaluation, a cause for neuropathy may remain unidentified in most patients. In addition to diagnostic difficulty, the diversity and complexity of clinical manifestations including weakness, unbearable pain, and autonomic symptoms makes it more difficult for a physician to obtain proper management. And acute, rapidly progressing neuropathy may affect the respiratory system and require intensive medical care. Therefore neurologists should fully understand the management of respiratory and autonomic failure, as well as neuropathic pain in patients with neuropathy. This article focuses on summarizing the current treatments for major complications of peripheral neuropathy.
